This afternoon I took a couple of pieces of lathe, a cheap fleece blanket, staple gun, drill, hooks and eyes, and made myself a "design wall". I've wanted one for a long time to lay out quilt blocks; the only wall that's big enough in the house is in the living room, which is darker than I'd like, but better dim than none. The hooks went into the molding; the eyes went into the lathe. I stapled the blanket top and bottom to a piece of lathe so it would lie mostly flat. The fuzzy surface of the blanket holds the cotton blocks easily in place without pinning so it's simple to move things around.

The first project on the wall is the log cabin quilt I'm working on. I'm not sure which of two layouts I prefer. Here's the vertical layout:

I'll leave this up on the wall until tomorrow to see it a few times before setting up the other layout, which is on the diagonal and would have a border. More pictures tomorrow.
